Privacy Policy

1. Summary

YouTube Fast & Clean is a Manifest V3 extension that controls HTML5 video and audio playback speed, and can optionally hide distracting YouTube UI. It has no accounts, no analytics, and no backend of our own. Work happens in your browser. We do not receive a copy of your pages, videos, or settings.

2. What the extension accesses

To do its job, the extension may process the following on your device:

• Website content: HTML5 media elements on the current page so it can set playbackRate, show the speed overlay, and handle shortcuts. On youtube.com it may also read page structure so Clean YouTube can hide Shorts, comments, the home feed, recommended videos, and similar UI.
• The current page URL: compared locally against site rules or a blacklist you configure, so the overlay can be forced, limited, or turned off on specific sites. This is not stored as a browsing history.
• Your settings: last speed, keyboard shortcuts, Clean YouTube toggles, site rules, overlay appearance, and related preferences in chrome.storage.sync (or the equivalent in Firefox / Safari).

3. How that data is used

• Apply and keep the playback speed you chose, including when a site tries to reset it.
• Show or hide the on-page controller and respond to remappable shortcuts.
• Apply Clean YouTube toggles only on YouTube.
• Honor per-site rules you saved.

Settings never leave the browser except through the browser vendor’s own sync, if you are signed in. That sync is operated by Chrome, Firefox, or Apple — not by us. We cannot read it.

4. What we do not collect

We do not collect names, emails, payment data, location, watch history, or a list of sites you visit. We do not run ads, analytics, crash reporters, or A/B tests. The packaged inject.js file is local to the extension zip. There is no remote code, no CDN script, and no eval of downloaded JavaScript.

5. Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or transfer user data to third parties. Page content and settings are not uploaded to a developer server. If you export or screenshot anything yourself, that stays under your control.

6. Permissions

• storage — save preferences in extension storage.
• Host access on http, https, and file URLs — attach the speed controller to HTML5 media on YouTube, Netflix, course sites, local files, and other pages that use a video or audio element. A separate YouTube content script applies optional cleanup CSS.

7. Retention

Media and page DOM are used in memory while a tab is open, then discarded. Settings remain in extension storage until you change them, reset them, or uninstall the extension. Uninstalling removes the extension’s stored settings from that browser profile.

8. Children

The extension is not directed at children under 16. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Your choices

• Turn the extension or Clean YouTube off in the popup or Settings.
• Disable it on specific sites with site rules.
• Remove it from your browser’s extension page at any time.

10. Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top. Material changes will be noted in the extension’s release notes.
